JJLA, the producers of the highly-anticipated OUTLOUD Music Festival @ WeHo Pride, in conjunction with RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 6 winner Kylie Sonique Love, has released a music video cover of Cyndi Lauper's 1986 hit song "True Colors." In anticipation of the three-day OUTLOUD Music Festival @ WeHo Pride, the video is a show of solidarity against the current slate of anti-drag and anti-trans legislation sweeping the country and encourages LGBTQ+ individuals to show their “True Colors.”

Kylie is scheduled to perform at this year’s OUTLOUD Music Festival @ WeHo Pride in West Hollywood where she will debut her version of the song on Saturday, June 3, 2023. For tickets to OUTLOUD, visit: www.weareoutloud.com. For more information about WeHo Pride, visit: www.wehopride.com

“Coming together with my RuPaul peers to recreate Cyndi Lauper’s iconic True Colors video has been an empowering experience. Our community has faced many hardships this year and showing queer joy and pride in its truest form has never been more important. This video not only serves as a fun precursor to WeHo Pride and the OUTLOUD Music Festival, but also sends a message of support to everyone affected by the anti-drag and anti-trans legislation currently impacting the LGBTQ+ community. We see you, we hear you, and we stand with you. We truly believe in the song’s message of ‘staying true to yourself’ even in the face of hardship, and we can’t wait to celebrate in our truest form this June,” said Kylie Sonique Love, star of the new True Colors track. You can listen to Kylie perform True Colors live on Saturday, June 3 at the upcoming OUTLOUD Music Festival @ WeHo Pride.

The music video stars the first trans woman to win RuPaul’s Drag Race and triple threat entertainer, Kylie Sonique Love, whose electric performance brings a new life to the beloved classic. Alongside Kylie are eleven noteworthy drag performers representing the different colors in the Equality Flag. The cast includes drag icons Alaska, Angeria, Aurora Sexton, Eureka, Heidi N Closet, Jimbo, Miss Shalae, Ra’jah O’Hara, Spice, Sugar, and Willam, who lend their fun and recognizable personalities to the video’s production.

Directed by Brad Hammer and executive produced by Jeff Consoletti of JJLA, the music video emphasizes inclusivity and diversity while continuing the mission of promoting queer artistry. The updated track was produced by acclaimed songwriter/producer Mark Beyers, aka Markaholic, whose other credits include hits for RuPaul himself, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “Kitty Girl”. The video celebrates the beautiful spectrum of identities that make up the queer community, and is a powerful reminder to stay true to oneself and to always let one's true colors shine.

OUTLOUD and the City of West Hollywood stand in support and solidarity with the trans and drag communities and work to create safe spaces where everyone can express themselves freely and authentically. The video is a tribute to the resilience and strength of the queer community and serves as a call to action for everyone to stand up for the rights and dignity of all queer people. The City of West Hollywood has long been an epicenter for LGBTQ+ activism, organizing, and progress, and the City continues to be instrumental in mobilizing advocacy for LGBTQ+ people including the recent effort to declare the City of West Hollywood a sanctuary city for transgender people in April 2023. Through creative programs like this, Drag Story Hour, and the upcoming Drag Laureate program, the City of West Hollywood and OUTLOUD continue to shine a spotlight on queer voices and bring LGBTQ+ matters to the forefront.

About the City of West Hollywood and WeHo Pride

Pride Starts Here. For nearly four decades, the City of West Hollywood has been home to one of the largest Pride celebrations in the nation. Hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ people and allies from around the world make West Hollywood their regular destination during Pride. 2022 marked the City’s inaugural WeHo Pride. This year, WeHo Pride Weekend (June 2 – 4) will include a free WeHo Pride Street Fair representing a diverse array of LGBTQ+ community groups as part of visibility, expression, and celebration; the ticketed music festival OUTLOUD @ WeHo Pride; and the WeHo Pride Parade on June 4. The WeHo Pride Arts Festival (May 22 – June 30) formerly known as the One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival, will take place during 40 days at various locations throughout West Hollywood, along with selected online programming. Additional information about #WeHoPride will be posted at www.wehopride.com and on Instagram and Facebook @wehopride as it becomes available.

Since its incorporation in 1984, the City of West Hollywood has become one of the most influential cities in the nation for its outspoken advocacy on LGBTQ issues. No other city of its size has had a greater impact on the national public policy discourse on fairness and inclusiveness for LGBTQ people. Home to the “Rainbow District” along Santa Monica Boulevard, which features a concentration of historic LGBTQ clubs, restaurants, and retail shops, the City consistently tops lists of “most LGBTQ friendly cities” in the nation. More than 40 percent of residents in West Hollywood identify as LGBTQ and three of the five members of the West Hollywood City Council are openly gay. The City has advocated for nearly four decades for measures that support LGBTQ individuals and the City is in the vanguard on efforts to gain and protect equality for all people on a state, national, and international level. #WeHoPride @WeHoCity
